Watch our video from our Employment Law Conference on 25 September:
Over the past two weeks we have welcomed over 200 delegates to our Southampton and Winchester Employment Law conference. The conference aims to give HR professionals and business leaders across our region, expert, up to date advice around key topics that will be affecting businesses across all sectors.
What topics were covered?
Partner Clive Dobbin kicked things off with his presentation all about defining sexual harassment and how to protect your business. Clive explored how you can take preventative measures in the workplace, and the process for investigating allegations, settling claims, and the detail of non-disclosure agreements. Clive then discussed what the future holds for sexual harassment guidance from the government and what employers should be doing now. For a more in depth session on Harassment, you can still book a space on our upcoming training course to be held at our Southampton office on 23 October.
In a legislation update, Partner Claire Merritt introduced the topic of IR35 and off payroll working. Claire defined the key terms, and explored what employers should be thinking about and how liabilities are changing in regards to IR35; changes which have raised HMRC £550 million in one year. Claire also explained some other key legislative changes in holiday pay and statement of terms.
Partner David Roath then gave a case law update, where he unpicked cases around holiday pay, social media, disability discrimination and many more. By looking in depth at these recent real world examples, attendees were able to take away practical advice to apply to their own business.
What did the attendees say?
Our Employment Law conference continue to be a valuable event for clients and colleagues. Louisa Calder, HR Director at The Lighthouse Learning Trust said; “I always try to come to this event. It’s a really good opportunity to learn new things, update myself, ensure we are compliant, but also to network with other people in lots of different sectors. It’s a really good experience and I would recommend it to anyone.”
When is the next event?
