Employment team welcome nearly 200 HR professionals to Spring conference

Clive Dobbin opens the Spring 2019 conference

Last week we welcomed nearly 200 delegates at our bi-annual employment conference, hosted at Southampton Football Club.

Partner and head of employment, Clive Dobbin, kicked off the conference things off by talking about how employers can manage ill-health and make the most of occupational health – something which continues to be a challenge for many businesses. In 2017 131.2 million days were lost due to sickness; Clive talked about the reasons for this and how HR teams can manage it.

Associate Jane Biddlecombe gave the audience practical insights into the processes and procedures for hiring EU nationals post-Brexit, and discussed what might happen in the case of a no-deal Brexit. Jane gave delegates a detailed overview of the rights of EU citizens, settled status, and how the government plan to streamline application processes.

Finally partner David Roath gave a case law update, where we heard about the strange claim of discrimination. A Dutch man is trying to legally change his age from 69 to 49 with the aim of boosting his online dating prospects, because he claims his doctor says he has the body of someone 20 years younger. David also explored 9 other cases to give the audience practical examples and insights.

The conference continues to receive outstanding feedback. Regular attendee Teresa Forsythe of Lambert Brothers said “excellent seminar as always” and Jane Barry of Elite HR commented, “Great event! Good central venue, speakers and general vibe.”

Our next employment conference in Southampton will be on 25th September. Email us to book your place.
