Good divorce week : A better way

Resolution is a community of family law professionals who work with families and individuals to resolve issues in a constructive way. Here at Paris Smith, our family lawyers are all members of Resolution.

Between 28th November 2016 and 2nd December 2016, Resolution and its members are promoting the new Code of Practice and holding a lobby day in Parliament in respect of a number of issues at the forefront of family law, including lobbying for the introduction of “no blame” divorce. This has been labelled “Good Divorce Week” and during this period, Resolution is trying to raise awareness about the different approaches that can be taken to family matters. Resolution is using the hashtag #abetterway to raise awareness on social media.

Resolution published an updated Code of Practice on Monday 28 November 2016. Resolution members sign up to this Code of Practice, which demonstrates to clients the approach we take to their family matters. The Code promotes a constructive approach to family issues, considering the needs of the whole family and, in particular, the best interests of children.

Resolution membership is about the approach that we take to assist our clients with their family matters. As Resolution members, we seek to reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation, support our clients and encourage families to put the best interests of any children first. We are committed to acting with honesty, integrity and objectivity.

Where Court proceedings are necessary, we work within the Code to ensure that matters are dealt with sensibly, with the least possible acrimony. We continue to act in the best interests of our clients and try to assist them in finding the best solutions.

As Resolution members, we are dedicated to:

  • listening to you, being honest with you and treating you with respect;
  • explaining all the options and giving you confidence to make the right decisions;
  • helping you focus on what’s important in the long-term;
  • helping you balance financial and emotional costs with what you want to achieve;
  • working with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you;
  • managing stress in what can be an already stressful situation.

Because we have signed up to the Resolution Code, we work with a network of other like-minded professionals, including mediators, financial planners and family consultants, to make sure we help our clients find the right approach for them and provide them with the necessary support.

We know, from our experience as family law professionals, that the best outcomes are achieved when our clients are helped to understand and manage the potential long-term financial and emotional consequences of decisions. This is why we use our experience and knowledge to guide our clients through the options available to them and provide them with the necessary information to make the best decisions.
