Government’s new Children’s Funeral Fund opens

It is every parent’s worst nightmare for their child to die before them. The unbearability of that grief must be immense and then there is the worry of funding the funeral. The funeral is the last practical event that is organised for a loved one and it is not uncommon for funerals to cost in excess of £4000.

The Government has launched a scheme called the Children’s Funeral Fund which means that funeral providers will be able to claim burial or cremation costs (as well as a contribution towards the coffin) from the Children’s Funeral Fund. The scheme is not means tested and will cover costs for children who die under the age of 18 years and still births after the 24th week of pregnancy.

This cannot diminish the grief but it can at least reduce any financial worry associated with the funeral.
