Twenty-seven Paris Smith LLP employees have already participated in one day of volunteering leave as part of the firm’s pledge to offer 200 days of its employees’ time towards volunteering during its 200th anniversary year.

There are 34 different exciting volunteering opportunities available for staff to get involved with to support the local community, from administrative tasks through to gardening and painting. The opportunities include volunteering at Marwell Zoo, sailing to the Isle of Wight and cooking meals for the homeless. Staff are also welcome to volunteer with a charity of their own choice.

Activities so far have included assisting with general stable duties at the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy; working with regional charity Education Business Partnership South to prepare young people for life after education; and contributing to a gardening project at The Carroll Centre.

Laura Trapnell, Partner at Paris Smith who has already volunteered said:

“I was introduced to Wetwheels through an invitation to go on one of its corporate days back in 2016. I went aboard the specially adapted Catamaran boat and met Geoff Holt MBE and Keith Plumridge (the skipper) and learnt about what Wetwheels offers its participants. I was so inspired by Geoff and Keith and the concept of offering profoundly disabled children and adults the opportunity to experience the thrill and exhilaration of power boating that I wanted to get involved. I now volunteer when I can and help look after the participants and ensure that their day is an unforgettable experience. It always is for me, each and every time.”

Eighty-nine members of staff have signed up to participate in one day of volunteering at various organisations across the local community, including Minstead Trust and Trinity Winchester.

Claire Merritt, partner at Paris Smith and leading on the initiative said: “We are delighted to be using our 200th year to engage within the local community and help support local charities.

“Every member of staff has been given an opportunity to volunteer with other people across the business who they might not usually work with, as well as taking away with them some great memories of helping others outside of their usual working environment.”
