Updated Code of Practice for CCTV published
This will be of interest to businesses which use or are thinking of using CCTV or other surveillance cameras, including body-worn cameras, automatic number-place-recognition-systems or drones. The Code, published by the Information Commissioner’s Office, includes specific guidance on up and coming technologies as well as more information on handling and responding to data subject access requests relating to surveillance cameras. The Code recognises that surveillance cameras are ‘no longer a passive technology that only records and retains images, but is now a proactive one that can be used to identify people of interest and keep details records of people’s activities…’.
You need to check that your existing policies comply with the Code so you do not fall foul of the Data Protection Act 1998.
