Costs for preparing immigration applications

There are many types of immigration applications. The costs indicated below are for applications such as spousal visas or applying for a visa to join family in the UK, settling in the UK, permanent residence applications for EU nationals, British citizenship applications and Tier 2 work visa applications. These costs do not apply to human rights/private life applications which are assessed on an individual basis.

Hourly rate: £228 to £270 (including VAT) depending on the seniority of your solicitor.

The solicitors at Paris Smith who specialise in immigration work are Jane Biddlecombe, Tabytha Cunningham and Charlotte Farrell

Initial fixed fee meeting (one hour): £228 (including VAT)

At this meeting we will give you some initial advice about the type of application which is most appropriate for you and the requirements of that application. There is no obligation on you to take any further advice from us after this meeting.

Further advice on your application

On average, this type of work takes between three and ten hours to complete. This means that on average costs are between £750 and £2,500. All figures include VAT unless specifically stated.

The exact number of hours it will take depends on the circumstances in your case, such as:

  • The specific requirements of the type of application you are making
  • The amount of assistance you require (e.g. whether you simply require us to check the documents you have collated or if you need advice on the evidence that is required for your application)
  • The amount of supporting evidence that we need to consider
  • Whether you are applying with other dependants
  • The amount of ad-hoc queries you have in relation to your application.

If you are able to provide sufficient evidence at our first meeting and clearly meet the applicable Immigration Rules, the cost is likely to be at the lower end of this range and the timescale will be shorter. If you need to gather together significant amounts of evidence which we will then need to review then the cost is likely to be at the higher end of this range and the timescale will be longer.

What services are included?

The work will involve:

  • discussing your circumstances in detail and confirming the most appropriate application for you to make and what other options may be available to you;
  • giving you advice about the requirements of the Immigration Rules and whether you meet the criteria;
  • discussing if you do not fulfil certain criteria, whether this can be overcome and, if so, how;
  • considering the supporting evidence you have provided, which we anticipate will take one to three hours. The amount of hours depends on the number of documents, whether they need to be translated, whether anything is missing and the amount of assistance you require to obtain the missing documents;
  • helping you to prepare your application, which we anticipate will take two to three hours;
  • giving you advice about any further steps you need to take.

The costs quoted here do not include:

  • the submission of your application which you are required to do yourself, usually online;
  • any Home Office fees for making the application. You will pay these to the Home Office directly as part of the application process;
  • disbursements. These include any mileage/travel expenses and costs related to your matter that are payable to third parties (which will be rare);
  • where the Home Office refuse your application, advice and assistance in relation to any re-application, administrative review or appeal.

How long will my application take?

We cannot guarantee how long the Home Office will take to process your application. Read the current processing times.

Please note the anticipated number of hours and fees are an estimate based on the facts above. All applications are likely to vary and, of course, we can give you a more accurate estimate once we have more information about your specific case.
