IT Manager


We are looking for an IT Manager to be based in our offices in Southampton.

The Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the enhancement and development of Paris Smith’s practice management system, Linetime Liberate, and will effectively manage all of the firm’s technology suppliers and applications, as well as the technology teams, to ensure a cohesive, relevant and robust technology offering. They will ensure that the firm’s technology applications are configured and (as appropriate) developed to achieve the required goals of the firm in line with Paris Smith’s values, strategy and objectives.

This role will report to the IT Partner.

Principle duties & responsibilities

Tasks include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Actively monitor and investigate all updates and/or functionality release by the firm’s IT suppliers and investigate any beneficial changes and make relevant recommendations
  • Provide first line support to staff for Liberate and other such applications, taking ownership of user’s problems and ensuring timely resolutions are found
  • Liaise with technology suppliers and undertake supplier reviews
  • Ensure that all applications are configured, developed and enhanced to ensure they can be efficiently and effectively used by staff, that they comply with any relevant policies and facilitate the provision of a professional service to the firm’s clients
  • Collaborate with the firm’s IT Outsource Partner, external suppliers and internal stakeholders on the assessment and delivery of IT projects and to manage those projects to successful conclusion
  • Manage the firm’s Liberate and Training teams
  • Communicate IT changes, additions or improvements to staff
  • Provide monthly reports to the IT Partner on technology matters
  • Proactively investigate and identify where Liberate can be deployed, refined, customised or developed to provide increased efficiency, productivity and/or profitability
  • Implement and maintain a system development methodology to ensure the visibility and milestones of the development cycle
  • Define and maintain the firm’s testing and release strategy

The ideal candidate will have excellent technical skills as well as a client-facing professional approach to their work.

Essential technical skills required:

  • Hands-on experience of industry standards (ITIL, Cyber Essentials)
  • Experience in troubleshooting Microsoft Windows and Office applications
  • Experience in Microsoft 365 applications, configurations and administration
  • Excellent Microsoft Word skills (including macros and merge fields)
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills (including data analysis and manipulation)
  • Active Directory Administration
  • Experience of standard legal applications, such as; Bighand/Winscribe, Citrix, Office, mobile devices, practice management systems (e.g. Aderant, Linetime, P4W, etc.)
  • Good all-round development skills
    • Knowledge of at least two programming languages
    • Well versed in various development techniques
    • Management of code
    • Management of testing cycle
  • Excellent case management development skills
    • Development of workflows and screens
    • Creation of data items/fields
    • Setting up document templates
  • Good SQL skills
    • Ability to “read” database structures
    • Creation of scripts to extract data, tables, views and stored procedures

    • Ability to define new business processes
  • Good data presentation and interpretation skills
