Jane qualified as a solicitor in 2002 and works for a broad range of clients in all sectors from small owner managed businesses to large national companies. Jane has acted on a range of Employment Tribunal claims, including unfair dismissal and discrimination claims. She also supports our commercial team with the employment aspects of buying and selling businesses, including advising on the complex area of TUPE. Jane has extensive experience in drafting and reviewing employment contracts, service agreements, policies/procedures and staff handbooks.
Jane also acts for individual employees in relation to a range of employment disputes and settlement agreements.
Jane also has experience in advising on a range of business and personal immigration issues. She assists companies in obtaining sponsor licences to employ highly skilled individuals from outside the EU and advises them on the requirements of employing people on Tier 2 work visas. Jane also advises individuals regarding a variety of immigration applications such as joining family in the UK visas, British citizenship and permanent residence applications as well as individual Tier 2 work visa applications.
Jane provides in house training to HR teams and managers as well as presenting at seminars (ranging from small group case studies to large seminars with over 150 attendees). She is also a member of the Employment Lawyers Association and the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association.
Advising a large national company in relation to a whistleblowing, disability discrimination and race discrimination claim which spanned two years and involved several grievances and claims brought by one employee. This culminated in a 20 day hearing in the Employment Tribunal, at the end of which all claims against her client were dismissed. A substantial costs award was also subsequently awarded in favour of her client.
The advice received from Paris Smith in respect of immigration matters has been extremely valuable, in particular with the support provided from the team around Tier 2 Sponsorships which was a subject that, as a business, we had little exposure to at the time we were required to apply for this licence.
