I am a Chartered Town Planner (MRTPI) who can demonstrate over 10 years’ experience in planning and environmental management practice in both local authority and private sector  roles.

As a planning consultant for Paris Smith, I can provide support and expertise in, and not limited to, the following areas of planning practice:

  • Providing local plan support (both preparation and delivery phases)
  • Representation at Examination in Public (EiP)
  • Preparing planning supporting statements
  • Householder developments
  • Planning appraisals and site assessments
  • Planning due diligence and risk appraisal
  • Minerals and waste planning
  • Major projects
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Permitted development rights
  • Conversions of office (Class O) and agricultural buildings (Class Q) to residential
  • Certificates of Lawfulness for existing uses or proposed development (CLUED)
  • Houses in multiple occupation (HMO) (both C4 and sui generis Use Classes)

I have demonstrable experience in applying the technical and planning skills necessary to support planning proposals for major infrastructure developments including nationally significant infrastructure projects (NSIPs).

In supporting major proposals, I have helped to coordinate the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process through working effectively as part of wider multidisciplinary teams.

I am able to support clients in identifying development potential and progressing project proposals in obtaining the desired planning consent.  I am able to provide an insight into design and construction considerations and how these challenges can be overcome in relation to planning control.

I have extensive experience of supporting the planning policy and implementation functions of a number of local planning authorities with an understanding of the political dimensions to be considered.

With specialist knowledge of planning for sustainable waste and resource management, I can demonstrate a broad understanding of the needs and challenges faced by the waste and resource industry.  I was elected as a Chartered Waste Manager (MCIWM) in 2017 in recognition of my commitment to the waste and resource management profession.

I hold an undergraduate degree with honours in Environmental Protection (Bournemouth University) and a Masters degree in Planning Policy and Practice (London South Bank University).

Paris Smith Solicitors and in particular Rob Sellen who throughout the planning application process on 46-48 Bevois Valley Road, kept me informed on all matters relating to the properties change of use especially during the unprecedented period of lockdown. Without his updates on progress, I'm sure the last couple of months would have been far more stressful than they have been and as my wife and I are engaged in a sale of my late fathers house this year has already been difficult. So once again thank you and I would recommend Paris Smith to anyone seeking advice on any planning matters.

As a Chartered Surveyor managing a portfolio of commercial property nationwide, getting good legal and planning advice is vital. One of our biggest clients uses Paris Smith for their legal work and when I discovered that Paris Smith has a planning team that combines planning lawyers and planning consultants I started using them on several projects. Rob Sellen is one of the planning consultants at Paris Smith that I have worked with. Projects have included permitted development applications, formal consents and objections to planned works all in Southern England. He has been helpful, clear, concise, timely and proactive in his dealings with me. I continue to use Paris Smith and Rob.

May I congratulate the planning team at Paris Smith and Rob Sellen who throughout the planning application process kept me informed on all matters relating to the proposed change of use, especially during the unprecedented period of lockdown. I would recommend Paris Smith to anyone seeking advice on any planning matters
