Last week the employment team welcomed nearly 200 senior HR professionals to our virtual conference. The team has delivered webinars to over 1000 delegates during lockdown so were thrilled to take the larger conference online as well, which is normally held at Southampton Football Club.

The team talked about responding to the new normal, plus gave updates on recent case law and an overview of employment tribunals. Shockingly the team reported that due to COVID-19, the tribunals are facing a yearlong backlog of cases.

Attendees also had the opportunity to attend a break out session to find out more about key changes in employment law. These sessions covered Brexit and immigration, managing mental ill health, and IR35, as well as a session on redundancies to help businesses who may be facing these tough decisions.

In a poll during the event, 33% of attendees felt that understanding the law to support their people was a key stumbling block in responding to the new normal. Clive Dobbin who heads up the team said; “We’ve worked really hard at making sure businesses have really valuable tools and resources to help them understand the law with regards to COVID-19 and the changes that have come with it. With the obvious increasing in home working, it’s clear that employment law has some catching up to do so that managers can properly support their people going forward”.

The event proved valuable for attendees, as Mat Dixon, HR Advisor with Stannah commented; “Very well structured, informative and delivered. The breakout sessions were also a great addition.”

The next employment law conference will be held in Spring 2021. If you would like to receive invitations to our employment conferences and training and/or receive legal updates in employment law please email georgina.carr@parissmith.co.uk with your preferences.
