The CQC has published guidance to assist health and social care providers navigate the complex issues surrounding the use of CCTV, including the potential impact on people’s privacy and trust. The guidance makes it clear that the CQC does not require providers to use surveillance systems but says that any such use must be lawful, fair and proportionate and used for purposes that “support the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care.” It also says that surveillance systems “can never be a substitute for trained and well supported staff.”
