If you’re involved in construction, then the wait for the new CDM Regulations is nearly over. So long as Parliament gives them the rubber stamp, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 will come into force on 6 April 2015.

To help businesses prepare, the Health and Safety Executive has recently published draft guidance which can be found here.

The main change is the replacement of the CDM co-ordinator role by the “principal designer”, who will be the designer with control over the pre-construction phase of the project (note there are important transitional arrangements for projects already underway as at 6 April 2015). The HSE has also produced separate draft industry guidance for the dutyholders under the 2015 regulations, including the ‘principal designer’ which you can find here.
