We are thrilled to be sponsoring the Collaboration360 Strong Female Lead event on Friday 12 March. This event is in honour of International Women’s Day and to share journeys and encourage females into the Property & Construction industry.
We began the week celebrating international women’s day, recognising women across the firm who go above and beyond in their roles.
We have various female property specialists across, from our construction specialists and development experts, to our disputes team, who work with commercial landlords.
Nicola Davies is an Associate in the Property Litigation team, specialising in resolving disputes that involve property rights/laws. Over the last three years Nicki has been part of the Southampton Property Association committee helping organise their professional training events. In January she took up a new role as the Chair of the Southern Region of the Property Litigation Association.
“My aim in this role is to bring PLA members, surveyors and barristers together to share training and knowledge in the area of law I specialise in. COVID-19 has brought a lot of challenges for working mums, mostly to do with childcare. Finding ways to look after our toddler in the first lockdown whilst working full time was a big challenge. Both my husband, who is also a solicitor, and I have combined working early mornings/late nights with coming up with creative ways to keep our daughter entertained at home. The benefits of being able to spend so much time with our daughter that I would have otherwise missed out on has been a real positive to come out of this pandemic. My hat goes off to all the parents that have been home schooling who must be breathing a sigh of relief today as their children go back to school.
The property industry is just one area where more work needs to be done to ensure gender equality. Peter Taylor, Managing Partner commented; “Everyone at the firm has an equal opportunity to contribute to our vision and purpose. Everyone has an equal opportunity to excel in their area of work – and everyone is able to apply and be considered for management and leadership roles. We’re committed to ensuring that no member of staff ever feels that their gender is a barrier to progression.”
