Fixed Fee Meeting Top 5 Tips

In this blog we set out our 5 top tips for you in order to prepare for your fixed fee meeting so that you can get the most out of your appointment.

  1. Prepare a timeline of events that you can discuss with your solicitor

Preparing a timeline in advance of the meeting will help you to remember the range of events so that these can be discussed at the meeting in a structured way. If you are able to send this to your solicitor in advance of the meeting they can take a look at this in advance so that they have a summary of the topic and an idea of the questions to raise.

  1. Consider sending documentation in advance of the meeting

Depending on the circumstances, you may think it would be useful for us to take a look at documentation beforehand. If you have been sent letters or have received emails for example, we allow up to 30 minutes before the meeting to review any documentation you send across.

Sending documentation across in advance can assist us in being able to gain an understanding of your situation before the meeting even begins, so we can provide specific and targeted advice to the key points raised in any documents you may have.

  1. Make a list of any questions you have that you want to discuss at the meeting

We understand that there may seem a lot of points and questions that you want to discuss, but that it can be difficult to remember everything during the meeting. Therefore, alongside compiling a list of events, making a note of any questions you have can help to ensure that you don’t forget to raise anything when it comes to discussing your situation with one of our lawyers.

  1. Consider whether you would like someone to attend the meeting with you

We appreciate that a meeting with a solicitor to discuss your employment can seem daunting. We strive to show consideration and support for your situation and to put you at ease. If however you feel that you would benefit from having a family member or friend attend the meeting with you for support, we can accommodate for this.

  1. What is your intended outcome?

We appreciate that the law surrounding employment and your rights can be complex, and you may be confused about the action taken by your employer and therefore need a meeting to clarify the situation and to discuss the various options. During the meeting we will collect all of the necessary information to be able to provide advice to you and outline these options for you moving forward.

However, if you are able to come to the meeting with an idea as to your desired outcome at that stage, we can factor this into our advice and discuss this with you in the context of a wider set of options that you may not have considered yet. For example, do you wish to stay at your organisation and challenge any action taken by your employer, or are you looking to exit the organisation and receive compensation, or, alternatively, are you looking to pursue a claim?

Of course, your intended outcome may change as a result of the meeting as we may discuss options you hadn’t considered, but having an idea in mind can help to structure the advice we provide.
