Tenants – Beware of landlords wanting premises back


A landlord successfully opposed tenant’s request for lease renewal (under “ground (g)” of s30(1)(g) of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954) by demonstrating an intention to occupy premises for its own business purposes and showing reasonable prospects of achieving its business objectives – the Court of Appeal therefore dismissed the tenant’s appeal and confirmed the High Court decision in Humber Oil Terminals Trustee Ltd v Associated British Ports (2011)
