My experience
I am a partner in the Dispute Resolution department. With experience across all areas of commercial litigation, I now specialise in property litigation, a field in which I have over 30 years’ experience.
Work regularly undertaken includes:
- Commercial landlord and tenant disputes
- Residential landlord and tenant disputes
- Business lease renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
- Dilapidations
- Possession claims
- Property rights on insolvency
- Option agreements and other land sale agreements
- Electronic Communications Code and telecommunications issues
- Joint ownership disputes
- Boundary disputes and adverse possession claims
- Rights of way, including public footpaths and private easements
- Town and village green matters
- Mortgage repossessions and other banking and finance issues
Other work undertaken includes:
Professional negligence – typically in the areas of construction, conveyancing, valuation, surveying and other property-related negligence issues.
Negligent financial advice
General commercial and insolvency-related litigation – prior to narrowing my focus to property disputes, I spent over ten years as a general commercial and insolvency litigator, dealing with contractual, corporate and commercial disputes. Despite my property focus, I continue to undertake such work. Most recently, I successfully concluded a High Court trial involving a shareholder dispute.
I assess each case thoroughly, providing advice on its legal merits while, crucially, developing a strategy that aligns with my client’s objectives, attitude to risk and financial position. I also have contacts that can help facilitate alternative funding arrangements where appropriate.
I am an active member of the Property Litigation Association and the Southampton Property Association, for whom my team and I have regularly presented seminars.
I am also a trustee of Hampshire Cultural Trust and an active member of Hampshire Search and Rescue, a local charitable organisation.
