The Role
We are looking for an experienced Paralegal to join our exciting and growing Tax & Estate Planning Department. The successful candidate will demonstrate a high level of accuracy, have a good understanding of the firm’s and department’s needs and procedures, ensure deadlines are met, and be a keen team player.
This role reports directly to the Partners within the department.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
- Undertaking work under the supervision of lawyers, as delegated by them, including:
- Drafting legal documents, including Wills and Letters of Wishes
- Drafting Trust documentation
- Undertaking routine work in the administration of estates
- Preparing schedules of assets and initial letters to asset and liability holders in estates
- Collecting and administering estate assets
- Dealing with property matters, such as paying bills and arranging insurance
- Assisting with the preparation of estate accounts
- Assisting with the preparation of legal statements and inheritance tax returns, including submission to HMRC
- Liaising with clients as required
- Drafting Lasting Powers of Attorney
- Arranging the circulation, signing and submission of Lasting Powers of Attorney
The Candidate
The successful candidate must possess the following attributes:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Highly organised
- A good team player
- A flexible and proactive approach
- The ability to work confidently with figures
- A law degree and/or some Private Client experience would be a distinct advantage
- Good IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- A willingness to take ownership of, and be accountable for, their own work
- The ability to generate their own work and undertake some business development activities would be advantageous
- A desire to learn and develop
You will work closely with Partners, lawyers and other fee earners within our Tax & Estate Planning Department, supporting a wide range of private client matters. You’ll also liaise with clients, HMRC, financial institutions, insurers and other third parties, helping to ensure matters are progressed efficiently and to the highest standard.
